In this blog post, I will explain the link between municipal waste, critical infrastructures and the role of digitalisation. Municipal waste disposal is classified as critical infrastructure, so many waste disposal firms and waste treatment facility operators are required to make investments to guarantee they are able to deliver the service they supply from 2024. This means that provisions must be made to ensure that waste is always disposed of and recycled or reused – which also includes the generation of energy through waste incineration – even in exceptional situations.
